Monday Maven: Get Zen

All of us want to be pretty, glamourous, and fabulous, but let's face it - none of that can happen if you're alive and not living.  Stress can have some terrible effects on a person and it's time us ladies spend some time getting zen (aka relax)!  Every week I talk about beauty, but beauty does not just pertain to the physical.  That's why I have decided to spend some time discussing inner beauty, starting with how to find inner peace and relaxation.

We spend so much time doing everything under the sun that we tend to forget to take some time to relax and replenish ourselves mentally, spiritually, and physically.  There are several ways to get zen and you have to find what works for you. Check out some fun and easy ways to get zen below.

Take a bath

Ingredients:

1 bath tub

5-10 candles

Scented bubble bath

Music

What to do - Light the candles and place them around the bathroom.  Fill the bathtub with warm water and add bubble bath.  Turn on the music of your choice. Dim the lights. Get in and enjoy.

Zen tip: Stay in for at least 30 mins and think about everything that you love about life!

Take a walk

Here's what to do:

Find a safe park, trail, and/or your neighboor hood.  Invite your best friend.  Take a walk and enjoy nature and good laughs with your bffs!

Zen tip: Stop for some ice cream along the way!

Buy some flowers for your home

Here's what to do:

Find a local flower shop.  Go in and smell all the flowers.  Pick your favorite flower and buy it.  Place it in an area that you frequent the most in your home.  Smell your flowers at least twice a day.

Zen tip: Smell your flowers while you still can!

Create a quiet corner

Ingredients:

1 quiet corner/closet

3 Candles

1 Piece of your favorite fabric in white

1-2 Pillows or a comfortable cushion

2 - 3 Magazines

5 photos of your favorite things

What to do - Find a quiet corner or closet.  Hang your fabric as a back drop, or use it to create a door.  Hang your pictures on one wall in your quiet corner/closet (one you can see easiest).  Place your candles some place that they can be supervised in your space.  Light them.  Place your pillows or a comfortable cushion on the floor so that you can be comfortable.  Have a seat and meditate or just relax and read some magazines for 10-30 mins.  Repeat at least 3 times a week.

Read a new book

Ingredients:

1 new book of your choosing

2 a quiet place to escape

What to do - Go to your private quiet place.  Pull out your book and get lost in it.  A book is like an instant vacation!  Enjoy!

  1. This is a great post... I've been having a lot of stress lately and need to start taking better care of myself! I wish my apartment had a tub in it! I guess I can just bump music and relax in the shower :D

    1. Thank you Rachel. I know what you mean about having stress lately. I 've had to remind myself to do these things and remain calm. Music and shower works just as well if not better than a bath so I say go for it. Maybe even light some candles!

  2. My Zen place...the park...I visit this place weekly...something about being in nature and shutting the rest of the world out. At home...I love my bedroom...the colors and the comfort of my bed helps me melt away the stress of the world, and it helps that I keep a "goodie" drawer with chocolates next to the bed! ;)

    Great post...

  4. I love taking a walk on the inter-coastal in order to relax. It's sprawling mansions, yachts, and water for miles with the sound of waves crashing and birds chirping. It really calms me down. : )

  5. Taking a nice quiet walk is one of my favorite stress releases. I usually do it in the afternoon just to get away from my desk when the weather is nice out. It's great for clearing my head.
