Blog Habits to Take Into the New Year

We're on week two of the New Year and Blog Resolutions are at an all time high. As bloggers, we all feel like we can conquer the world right now (and always). We've been on break, enjoying the holidays, and/or have just decided that this will be our year. Well it can be, but only if we take a few key tips into the new year. I've been getting lots of emails from bloggers asking how they can make their blog better for the new year. In essence, I'm doing this post not only for other bloggers, but for myself as well. Let's face it, being a blogger can be a hard job, but it can be rewarding if you keep a few things in mind. Here are a few blog habits to keep in mind for the new year.

Blog Habits to Take into the New Year

❤ Take breaks

There is nothing worse than blogger burn out! There's one thing that all bloggers have that tends to be a gift and a curse. It's the thought that they have the ability to do any and everything all at once. Let's save ourselves some trouble this year and take breaks. Don't plan to go, go, go, this year because you'll end up with blogger burn out which can be easy to come by especially when you don't take breaks. Our minds like our bodies need breaks to rest and get rejuvenated so that they can be inspired and crank out that creative material we thrive off of.

❤ Plan ahead

A week off planing is better than a week on struggling. Believe me, I know! I was one of those bloggers that thought planning and setting goals would stifle my creativity. I thought it would be too much structure and too restricting. Uhhhh, wrong! If you're going to be a great blogger then you need to plan. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Get an editorial calendar! The good thing about an editorial calendar is you'll get to see how your posts flow, add and remove things easily, see where you are and where you need to be, schedule breaks, and it will allow you time to live life.

❤ Blog on Your Own Terms

Here's a little blogger secret that many successful bloggers probably won't tell you. Ready? Blog on your own terms! When I say blog on your own terms I mean be yourself! Do what you want to do and blog about what you want to blog about. Blog when you want to and not because you feel like you have to. Many bloggers who have "made it" made it on there own terms. They forgot about the "rules" and created their own path, and guess what? That paid off in the end.  So this year, commit to blogging on your own terms!

I'm beyond excited that you all feel comfortable enough to email me and ask me blog advice. I've decided to allow time for more posts dedicated to blog advice. If you have a question you'd like me to address send me an email at Kelley@KeepSittingPretty.com.

What blog goals have you set for yourself this year? Did you find these tips helpful?

  3. Great advice! I think a lot of times we take the more stressful approach to blogging out of fear that what we are inspired to do isn't good enough. I'm definitely one of those people, but I am trying to get better and just really enjoy what I do and who I am as a blogger.

  4. Great advice! I experienced blogger burnout earlier on so I had to change my blogging schedule which has helped. I took a break over the holidays and got some great inspiration. And I can't say it enough: the editorial calendar has been a God send! As always, great advice. Thanks for sharing!
