5 Things Beyonce Taught Us About Living Our Dream

Life is but a dream, a beautiful dream. This past weekend the world had the chance to get to know a side of Beyonce Knowles that we don't always get to see. We got to see her not only in her role as a wife, mother, and entertainer, but also as a dreamer. Beyonce's documentary spoke volumes about how she has been able to create and sustain the life of her dreams. Below, I'll share five lessons we can learn from Beyonce about living our dreams!

5 Things Beyonce Taught Us About Living Our Dream

1. Know that things will work out.

I don't know if you feel the same, but I've always thought that Beyonce was and is calm, cool, and collected. In her documentary, "Life is But a Dream," it became very clear why she's so calm. Beyonce shared that at the end of the day, no matter how crazy things may be, she knows that everything will work out.  Beyonce couldn't have taught us a better lesson when it comes to being our dreams. If we are serious about seeing our dreams come true, then we must believe that no matter what, our everything will work out.

2. Lead, don't be led.

I thought it was interesting that Beyonce mentioned how she's been noticing that artists don't make albums anymore. They settle for several singles because they want instant gratification, and they're okay with that. Well, Beyonce is not okay with that and you shouldn't be either! Beyonce has decided to be a leader and not to be led by continuing to not only create albulms, but to work hard at her craft. The lesson here is to lead and not be led. Don't go for the quick fix like everyone else. Stand out by working hard and passing up the quick fix for a lasting legacy.

3. Know when to let go.

In the documentary, Beyonce speaks briefly of her decision to let go of her father as her manager. She explained how she knew it was time because she had come to a point where she wanted to be able to separate her father from her manager. This is what we have to be able to do when it comes to our dreams, let go.  We have to know what we want and not be afraid to let go of what is no longer working for us. We can't let the fear of failure or the unknown stop us from letting go.

4. Be willing to work for what you want.

Beyonce is known for going above and beyond in her performances. She's a hard worker and she's not afraid to work for what she wants. Beyonce often talks about how she sets goals for herself, puts her mind to it, and then achieves the goals she sets. Beyonce went from being unknown to being known worldwide. Beyonce is the perfect example of what it looks like to set a goal and to keep building once you've achieved that goal. If you want to live the life of your dream, remember that it's important to set goals and to achieve them one at a time one step at a time.

5. Notice your life's threads.

Beyonce speaks candidly about how important it is to notice the recurring themes in your life. Sometimes we go through life and ignore the very recurring themes we should be paying attention to. We are so busy searching for meaning in life that we often miss the intricate details of life that are guiding us to be the greatest version of ourselves. Our purpose can sometimes by like a fine thread weaving the path our lives take, but if we're not careful to pay attention we can miss it. What is the one thing that keeps happening in your life? What is it telling you about who you are, who you're meant to be, and the great things you're meant to do? Notice your life's threads and let them guide you.

  1. Thanks so much for sharing this Kelley. I didn't get to watch, I don't have HBO boooo. :( I've always been a huge Beyonce fan, and feel she's a great role model. This is a great list you made!

  2. I love that you saw these lessons and that you shared them. I just watched her documentary and wow, it was truly inspiring. Before this documentary, I had tremendous respect for her and thought she was talented but I don't know if I was a fan-as in an avid follower of her career. However, when I saw her commitment and love for what she does and for making a true difference, I fell in love. I am now a fan-a follower of her career.

I love that she really has learned and grown so much and that she's sharing that with us particularly since she is so private. I fully applaud her for sharing what she has come to know about life and love and career. Anyway, thanks for posting this!! I should print this out so I can remember this-and I think I may just do exactly that. :)

  3. Great job at summing up the documentary. I think number 5 was my biggest takeaway from the film. Love your blog:-)

  4. I absolutely love this post! Thank you so much for sharing. Yes everything will certainly work out!
