5 Lessons Sex & the City Taught Us About Living Our Dream

1. True friends are like diamonds in the rough.....

.....hard to find and priceless. One of my favorite quotes by Jim Rohn says "You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with." I love how this quote speaks to making sure that you surround yourself with people of quality that will help you grow. This was definitely the case for Carrie and her crew. They were all unique, a bit unorthodox, but above all supportive and they pushed each other to grow. They forced each other to face their own truths and even though they fought sometimes, they loved each other more for it. That's the thing about friends, they make the journey to our dreams fun and unforgettable.

2. Mistakes lead to master pieces.

Mistakes never looked so fabulous as they did on Sex & The City.  Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda were pros at making mistakes. In fact they have helped many women come to this very important fact of life -  mistakes lead to epiphanies, which in turn lead to growth.  Sure you may make mistakes in life. Sure it may look like mistakes have led you away from your dream, but the sooner you learn to accept you mistakes and learn from them, the sooner you learn that mistakes lead to master pieces.

3. Girls just want to have fun

There is one thing that the Sex & the City ladies were never short on, and that was fun! These ladies had fun when it came to food, fashion, love, and most importantly life. They weren't afraid to get creative and try new things. That is the reason they lived such fun and rich lives. Whenever you get down, figure out something you can do to have some fun. Once you figure that out, do it often, because at the end of the day girls just want to have fun!

4. Follow you heart & your passion.

The one thing I love about the ladies of SATC was that they were all doing jobs that they loved. They did not compromise on doing what they loved. They did not give up on doing what they loved and even when they were fed up they stuck with it.  These ladies not only did jobs that they loved, but they weren't afraid to follow their hearts down paths unknown. They embraced what they did not know and they were better for it. They showed that following your heart and your passion may lead to some unwanted things, but they ultimately lead you down a path to a better you.

5. Don't follow the leader, be the leader.

Independent is the word that comes to mind when I think of SATC. Each of the ladies of SATC had their own unique sense of style and they never felt the need to follow the latest trends. Carrie in particular stood out! She knew the difference between fashion and style and always chose the latter. She new that fashion fades, but her style was untouchable and inspiring. She never felt the need to follow the leader when it came to style because she was busy being the leader. That's how we all should be when it comes to not only fashion and style, but following our dreams.

  1. such a great post and these are all such good points! thank you for sharing, i love SATC.

  2. Great points. There were a few things I think I can point out that I admired from the show, many of those points are covered here. I appreciated how honest they were with one another and how they would be there, no matter how far in distance, for the other when they were going through a tough time. Carrie lived a life that was frugal, but she was always stylish, always inspired, and like you said was doing what she loved in a career that didn't pay that much for a long time. It was never about the money chase with her.
